The race to advance conversational AI in the living room is heating up, with YouTube becoming the latest to expand the tool to smart TVs, game consoles, and streaming devices.
This experimental feature, previously limited to mobile and web devices, now brings live chat AI to the biggest screen in the home, allowing users to ask questions about content without leaving the video they’re watching.
According to YouTube support pageeligible users can click the “Ask” button on the TV screen to summon an AI assistant. The feature offers suggested questions based on the video, or users can use the remote microphone button to ask anything related to the video. For example, it is possible to ask about the ingredients of a recipe or the background of a song’s lyrics, and receive a quick answer without pausing or leaving the app.
Currently, this feature is available for the group of users above 18 years and supports English, Hindi, Spanish, Portuguese, and Korean languages.
YouTube was the first to launch this conversational AI tools in 2024 to help viewers explore content more deeply. The expansion to TV comes as more Americans now access YouTube through their televisions than ever before. A Nielsen reports since April 2025 found that YouTube accounts for 12.4% of total television viewing time, surpassing major platforms like Disney and Netflix.
Other companies are also making significant strides with conversational AI technology. Amazon launched Alexa + on Fire TV devicesenabling users to engage in natural conversations and ask Alexa + for customized content recommendations, hunt for specific scenes in movies, or even ask about actors and filming locations.
Meanwhile, year has added an AI voice assistant to handle open-ended questions about movies and shows, such as “What is this movie about?” or “How scary is it?” Netflix also test the AI search experience.

Another way YouTube has tried to improve Experience TV with AI is the launch of a new feature that automatically upscales videos uploaded at lower resolutions to full HD.
In addition, the company continues to roll out other AI features, such as comment summaries that help viewers follow video discussions and AI-powered search results carousel. In January, the company declare that creators will soon be able to create Shorts using an AI-generated version of their own likeness.
Last week, YouTube opened app dedicated to Apple Vision Pro, too, allows users to watch their favorite content on a theater-sized virtual screen in an immersive environment.
