On Tuesday, the 33 -year -old Muslim Zoharan Mamdani, a South Asian origin, surprised political observers to face the defeat of the former Governor Andrew Kuomo on Tuesday.
If the state assembly member Mamdani won in the mayor’s election in November, he will be the first Muslim, Indian-dominated mayor in the history of New York city.
