“Being married is really the most fun,” Robbie told PORTER in November 2018. “Life just got a lot more fun in some ways. I have a responsibility to be someone’s wife, I want to be better.”
Robbie explained that even though she and Ackerley were often busy with their Hollywood projects, they still made time to see each other as much as possible.
“Even if we both have to fly to an intermediate country where we are both for one night, we will do it and go back to work the next day,” he said at the time. “And we talk all day every day on the phone.”

How did Margot Robbie and Tom Ackerley meet?
The couple met in 2013 during the production of the WWII drama French Suite. Ackerley worked as third assistant director on the film, while Robbie played the character Celine alongside Michelle Williams, Kristin Scott Thomas, Matthias Schoenaerts, Sam Riley, Ruth Wilson i Lambert Wilson.
She and a group of assistant directors, including Ackerley, decided to move to London together as they navigated their budding careers. Finally, her romance with Ackerley blossomed in 2014.
“We kept it a secret. Because we didn’t really take it seriously. ‘Oh, whatever, we’re just mates, we’re just mates.’ And then … everybody found out,” the Once Upon a Time in Hollywood actress said the guardian in February 2018 from the early days of their relationship.
While talking to Vogue in May 2016, Robbie referred to Ackerley as “the best-looking guy in London” and reminisced about his single days.
“I was the ultimate single woman. The thought of relationships made me want to throw up,” she reflected. “And then it crept up on me. We were friends for so long. I was always in love with him, but I thought, ‘Oh, he’d never love me again.’ Don’t make it weird, Margot. Don’t be stupid and tell him you like him.’ And then it happened, and I was like, ‘Of course we’re together.’ This makes so much sense, in a way that nothing has ever made sense before.”

Robbie and Ackerley tied the knot in December 2016 in an intimate ceremony in Australia’s Byron Bay. They made their red carpet debut as a married couple at the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival.

Ackerley is a producer and director with over 20 credits to his name. In recent years, he served as an executive producer for Netflix mermaids as well as the miniseries Mike.
In addition, Ackerley and Robbie are part of the group that founded the production company LuckyChap Entertainment Limited.
