It was over for me,” Grimes recalled in an interview with people in June “It was seven years of playing a person I’ll never see again, except to have the hat and the jacket in the closet. It wasn’t until probably three or four months later that everything started to line up for the (spinoff).”

Before Yellowstone ended, Asbille reflected on Monica and Kayce’s future, telling The Hollywood Reporter in November 2024, “Oh, there are definitely (obstacles). I guess that’s part of marriage, the obstacles. That’s just life! But I think they’ve always been the endgame for each other. He’s been working and making a home with his family. Looking forward, so I hope they get that in the end peace”.

Grimes, for his part, showed support aa spin-off centered around the fictional couple.

“(Kelsey and I) keep saying if Taylor calls and it’s something she wants to do and it’s something she wants to write, we’d say yes,” she noted.

Since then, the actor has remained very tight-lipped about how Y: Marshals will address his personal life.

“We definitely wanted to make sure we gave her a real story and made it interesting and believable,” Grimes shared in June with People about Y: Marshals. “If it was like, ‘Well, he’s happy,’ are we just going to see him being happy? That’s not great. But I will say this, the idea that they came up with is really, really good and really interesting and I really liked it and I think the audience will like it.”

He continued: “There will be familiar faces. There will also be a lot of new faces, so we’ll see how that all feels. Coming back in a new set of circumstances will be (kind of) a transition.”
