The college football world was rocked the abrupt shot head coach at the University of Michigan Sherrone Moore on Wednesday, December 10, and left even more surprised by what came next.
Moore, 39, was fired Wednesday after two seasons as the Wolverines’ head coach after the school found “credible evidence” that Moore had had an “inappropriate relationship” with a staff member.
“This conduct constitutes a clear violation of University policy and UM maintains zero tolerance for such behavior,” the athletic director said. Warde Manuel he said in a statement.
Moore has married his wife, Kelly Mooresince 2015 and the couple share three daughters: Shiloh, sun i sadie.
Shortly after his firing was announced, it was revealed that Moore had been arrested by police as a result of an assault investigation.

How did Michigan find out about Sherrone Moore’s alleged ‘inappropriate relationship’?
Michigan first investigated Moore and the staff member over the summer, but both denied having a personal relationship, Michigan reporter John U. Bacon he reported in a Thursday, December 11th appearance on Good Day Detroit.
That changed when staff “brought receipts” to the Michigan administration Wednesday morning, which Bacon said included “the text messages, the emails, the documents, etc., that laid out the details of their relationship and their conflicts.”
Even before that, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that there were “much whispering and speculation about various gossipy and salacious articles” in the weeks leading up to Moore’s firing, but the university could find no evidence of wrongdoing.
Was Sherrone Moore Arrested?
Moore was taken into police custody shortly before the University of Michigan announced his firing, according to multiple sources.
The Pittsfield Police Department responded to an address in the 3000 block of Ann Arbor-Saline Road at 4:10 p.m. Wednesday “to investigate an alleged assault,” according to a news release.
A suspect at the scene, who Detroit news reported to be Moore, he was arrested.
Moore’s termination was announced at 4:43 p.m
According to online court records, Moore was booked into the Washtenaw County Jail at 8:30 p.m. and spent the night there.
Why was Sherrone Moore arrested?
911 audio obtained by TMZ revealed Thursday that the woman who called police accused Moore of “attacking” her. Bacon added that the woman accused Moore threatening to hurt her and himself with a knife. She also accused the ex-coach of stalking her “for months.”
It was not immediately clear if the Michigan staff member was the same woman who made the 911 call.
What was Sherrone Moore accused of?
Moore had not yet been charged with a crime as of Thursday evening, but that could soon change.
“The incident does not appear to be random in nature and there does not appear to be an ongoing threat to the community,” the Pittsfield Police Department said in a statement Wednesday.

“Given the nature of the allegations, the need to maintain the integrity of the investigation and its current status at this time, we are prohibited from releasing additional details,” Pittsfield PD said. “Further details about the incident will be released as soon as possible.”
Bacon added that the charges appear “likely.”
“I don’t think there’s any way around it,” he said. “I know this is a relationship, but once you’re in someone’s house and it involves potential threats.”
Who did Sherrone Moore allegedly have a relationship with?
The identity of the staff member at the center of the allegations is unknown.
“There had been a lot of whispering and speculation about various gossipy and salacious articles with the school here for weeks,” explains ESPN. Adam Schefter reported Thursday, December 11. “I believe the school investigated these situations and found no evidence of any wrongdoing.”
Schefter, 58, continued: “But if the school is going to take the step Wednesday that it did, and announce that it will fire Sherrone Moore for cause, and say that she had an inappropriate relationship with an employee, then clearly something happened this week that the school felt it had irrefutable evidence of and was left with no other option.”
What Happens to Michigan Football After Sherrone Moore?
Biff Poggi will take over as Michigan’s interim head coach, the university announced.
As an associate coach this season, Poggi, 66, filled in for Moore for two games while Moore was suspended for his role in a poster theft investigation.
Poggi was previously the head coach at the University of Charlotte for two seasons.
Michigan is currently preparing to play in the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl against the University of Texas on New Year’s Eve.
