Promoter Frank Warren said he would be open to a third fight between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk, although he acknowledged that the heavyweight champion’s current image makes it difficult to schedule any rematch any time soon.
Usyk currently holds three major heavyweight championships, each with a major challenger on the line. Under the applicable laws of the body, such obligations must be satisfied unless an exception is granted. Warren said that failure to reach an agreement would leave Usyk with no choice but to give up the belts.
This show has already been played once. Usyk vacated his WBO title rather than continue a mandatory defense against Fabio Wardley, who was promoted to full title as a result. Warren said similar decisions could follow if exemptions are not secured for the remaining titles.
Warren saidsetting exemptions to most penalties requires public approval, complicating the process. He described the situation as confusing, with many fighters waiting for tag opportunities and limited flexibility to host voluntary defenses or fights.
Fury’s position adds another variable. The former heavyweight champion has not fought since his second loss to Usyk in December 2024 and has not announced a return date or opponent. Warren revealed that, before discussing another Usyk fight, Fury needs to re-enter the ring in a preparatory fight to end his inactivity.
Despite the technical difficulties, Warren reiterated his interest in a trilogy based on the success of the first two fights. He praised Usyk’s effort and described him as the first heavyweight in the group, but noted that both fights with Fury were competitive and entertaining.
But, Warren stopped short of expressing the idea that it was imminent. Currently, there is more discussion than there is a clear way to actually do the fight. With legal challenges pending and anger not coming back, any third meeting will depend on how the status quo evolves and whether agreements can be reached in the months ahead.
