Team USA Luger Sophia Kirkby make a call via Instagram for Valentine’s Day date and, predictably, men slid into her DMs faster than she could slide down the runway in the Winter Olympic Games.
Kirkby, 24, shared some of the results in a Instagram video published on Monday, February 9.
“DM Review: Boys Edition,” he captioned the post.
“Sophia you are an amazing, wonderful and lovely dream woman ❤️🌹😘,” read the first direct message.
“Hi Sophia! Heard you’re looking for a date for Valentine’s Day?” said the second.
“I mean, I am,” Kirkby replied mockingly.
Another suitor responded to one of her stories showing the handmade pins she and other Olympians have made in the long tradition of trading Olympic pins.
“You can give one to the DJ at the slide center 😉,” he wrote.
“Oh my god, the DJ at our Olympic venue wants me to pin him,” Kirkby replied. “Should I give him my pin?” (The comments section seemed to agree that it should.)
Kirkby and his partner, Chevonne Forganthey form the first American women’s doubles team to compete in the Winter Olympics. He unblocked the crowd of seven in his e-mails recounting his search for love at the Milan Cortina Olympics on Instagram.
“Olympics officially start this Friday and I’ll be in Cortina,” she wrote on Feb. 1 alongside a selfie of herself in head-to-toe Team USA gear. “Also…yeah, I’m single. Village of athletesThe most eligible bachelor season has officially begun.”
She continued: “I just ran on the 12th and I’m looking for a Valentine’s date. I’m not just looking for other Olympians to grab a cappuccino. I’ll have my dating profiles on and I’m open to coffee with you fans. See you in Cortina. ☕️.”
Kirkby hasn’t stopped there, posting several times since then about his search for love. He even posted one video from the opening ceremony on Friday, Feb. 6, where she pointed to the horde of athletes behind her as she captioned, “My Valentine might be in that line somewhere.”
“I had the best time walking in the opening ceremony. Seeing everyone dressed up and soaking it all in was unreal,” she wrote in the caption. “Now the only question is…did I just walk with my future Valentine? 🌹☕️”
The next day, Kirkby brought the Xfinity brand partner in on the fun, posting a video with the brand where she presented herself as the most eligible bachelorette in the Olympic Village.
“Hey gentlemen, this is your chance to date an Olympian,” she said in the video. “My name is Sophia Kirkby and I will be competing in Cortina, Italy for the women’s double luge. My event is on February 12th, just before Valentine’s Day. I will have my dating platforms up and running. We can have a cappuccino, maybe an Aperol Spritz.”
Kirkby also shared what he looks for in his ideal date, saying she should be “about a height”, as he held his hand above his own head.
“He would be so cute and he should be strong enough to take my feet off me,” Kirkby added.
