The Golf Association of the United States (USGA) confirmed that they will not alter the driver test protocols or test tests, despite recent failure involving Rory Mcilroy and Scottie Scheffer.
Driver testing attracted attention during last month of the PGA Championship after reports revealed that the MlCirory driver was considered unconformed.
Mcilroi, which used a spare driver throughout the tournament, decided not to speak with the media during the competition, but later confirmed the report and expressed the disappointment that the results were leaked.
World no. 1 Scheffer also discovered that he transferred to a spare driver on the PGA Championship after the original club failed to test.
Speaking in advance this week in the US openings on Oakmont – live on Ski Sports – The USGA Mike Hanka said that the results that harmonized usually because of wear and tears, not intentional violations.
“These drivers don’t raise red flags during testing,” Vhan said. “They just move across the line due to excessive use.”
Vhan stressed that the USGA leads driver testing as a service to players, manufacturers and tour – not to punish. He said the organization was dedicated to keep the results confidential to avoid unnecessary controversies.
“What happened to the PGA Championship only strengthened its determination to prevent it from becoming a public spectacle,” he said. “Reality is far less dramatic than the title.”
The driver faces naturally degraded over time, eventually fails to test the “characteristic time”, which measures the Spring CLUBFACE spring effect.
Vhan warned him of the trampoline: “The longer ball remains involved, the larger bounced. If 258 microseconds, it is tolerance.”
Accidental testing was conducted this week in Oakmont, but he said he was not aware of any failures. He added that the USGA will reconsider his approach only if he appears in connection with the trend.
