The winner of Tyson Fury’s fight with Arslanbek Mahmudov will receive a high world ranking, confirmed WBC president Mauricio Suleiman.
In early 2025, former world champion Fury announced his retirement. He sat out all of last year, but decided to come back.
He will now fight heavyweight contender Mahmudov on April 11 in Great Britain.
“As a former champion, he has rights and privileges and I am absolutely sure that the winner will be highly ranked in the WBC,” Suleiman said. Ski Sports.
“(Mahmudov) was a WBC international and silver champion, he’s tough, strong. Coming back after a long layoff from the ring, it’s an interesting challenge for Fury.”
The president of the VBC welcomed this return. “Tyson Fury is Tyson Fury. He’s a sensational ambassador for boxing, a great fighter, has a huge following and I’m very excited,” Suleiman said.
“His life without boxing is not the same and it will be a good challenge to see him back in boxing and I am very happy for him.”
Although Fury is now 37 years old and has been a professional fighter since 2008, Sulaiman thinks he still has a long way to go in the sport.
“Tyson has never been injured. He’s always fit, always focused. I think there’s been a Tyson Fury (in boxing) for a long time,” said the WBC president.
“In boxing and out of boxing, to overcome tremendous difficulties that he faced, in addictions, he overcame it. He came back and became champion, knocking out (Deontay) Wilder, and then he had a great journey as champion, motivating and influencing so many people around the world.”
“It’s just an amazing story and he’s someone who represents the best of boxing.”
