Zohran Mamdani’s victory in New York was not the only Democratic victory in early November. Left-leaning female candidates also won key gubernatorial races in Virginia and New Jersey, giving Democrats cause for optimism ahead of next year’s midterm elections. The winners, a former Navy helicopter pilot and former CIA officer, won by focusing their campaign on economic arguments.
