The President of the US Donald Trump and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin will speak in the coming days, as talks continue with a possible cease to Ukraine in Ukraine.
The US envoy Steve Witkoff, who met Putin on Thursday in Moscow, told the CNN he expects “there is a call to two Presidents this week”.
“We also continue to participate and talk to Ukrainians,” he added. “We advise them all we think.”
Last week, the US and Ukraine agreed to propose a 30-day ceasefire in Russia. While Putin said he supported a stop, he also set up a list of restricted situations for reaching peace.
Witkoff says in the interview Sunday: “I think two presidents have a very good and positive discussion this week.”
He also said that US teams will meet matches from Ukraine and Russia someday.
Witkoff added that he believes that an agreement can be reached “in (the) come weeks”.
“I really hope we can see some progress here,” he said.
During his election campaign, Trump often promised to end the war, which began the whole Russian invasion of his neighbor to his neighbor of 2022, in a new administration.
