Transilvania Open: Emma Raducanu in semi-finals after straight sets win over Maja Chvalinska | Tennis News

Emma Raducanu advanced to the semi-finals of the Transylvania Open after defeating Maja Chwalinska in straight sets.

Radučanu played a flawless 6-0 in the first set, but Chvalinska fought back in the second set, breaking early and putting the Briton under pressure.

But the top seed kept her composure, fought back and held her serve for the rest of the match as her 6-0 6-4 victory set up a semi-final clash with Ukraine’s Oleksandr Olijnikova.

I am very satisfied with my performance, Raducanu said after the match. “I played a great match from the start and I was so happy to start.

“There’s always going to be moments of adversity that I have to overcome, and I did a good job of that in the second set, so I’m really proud of how I did that.”

Jonathan Overend believes that if Raducan finds the right balance with the right coach, she will be ready for a great year of tennis.

“Maya is a really tough opponent, she moves so well, she has great hand skills, so I’m really pleased with how I overcame that challenge.”

On her semi-final clash with Olynikova, she added: “I saw a bit, she played before me. I didn’t have much time last night to prepare for this one. I’m so focused on recovery – no matter how long each match lasts, it takes a lot out of you, so I have to recover well.”
