Tiger Woods injury update: 15-time major champ says ‘a little while’ before return after team wins TGL golf match | Golf News

Tiger Woods says it will be “a while” before he returns to professional golf as he watched his Jupiter Links side earn its first win at the 2026 TGL on Monday.

Woods last competed in an official PGA Tour event in July 2024 when he missed the cut at The Open and missed the entire 2025 season after rupturing his Achilles last March and then undergoing a disc replacement in October.

The 50-year-old has made just 11 competitive starts since a car accident in 2021, struggling to compete in events during such a limited playing schedule.

Asked when he might play for his Jupiter Links team in the TGL this season, he said: “Playing here? I don’t know. I love watching these guys. As far as competitive golf, there’s still a little bit of time.”

Woods played in three of Jupiter Links’ four losses at the technology-packed tournament last year, is officially part of the 2026 roster, but has already ruled himself out of early games ahead of the new season.

The Jupiter Links have just two more league games on March 2 and 4 before the semifinals and finals later that month, should they finish in the top four. However, Woods’ latest comments suggest he will not be competing in the TGL this season.

Will Woods Play PGA Tour Champions AND PGA Tour?

Woods turning 50 frees him to play on the PGA Tour Champions starting next season, giving him the ability to play events on any circuit once he recovers from injury.

He was able to use a golf cart during regular events on the PGA Tour Champions, but played down expectations of a quick return in December.

“I’m a long way from that part and that kind of decision, that kind of commitment level,” he said.

“Unfortunately, I’ve already gone through this rehab process, it’s just one step at a time. Once I get a feel for the practice, the blast, the game, the recovery process, I can gauge where I’m going to play and how much.”

“I haven’t really gone into the depth of what the championship schedule looks like, except for a few tournaments.”

Could Koepka be in TGL Golf in 2027?

Last week, Brooks Koepka revealed that the first person he called when he was released from his LIV contract was Woods, to discuss his return to the PGA Tour.

The five-time major winner ended his contract with the Saudi outlaw series a year early as he wanted to spend more time at home with his family.

Woods, who in addition to being a 15-time major winner is chairman of the PGA Tour’s Futures Committee, remains a player looked up to by his contemporaries and Koepka knew he was his first point of contact.

Tiger Woods says Brooks Koepka’s return to the PGA Tour is important for the game, explaining fans want to see the best players compete against each other and adding it strengthens the competition at the top level

Woods said Koepka could potentially play in next year’s TGL: “Brooks just got his feet wet when he came back to our tour in Torii, and he’s playing Waste Management this week.

“We have one new team next year, and we should have two. I don’t know when it will be sewn up or not. But who knows.”

“Whether Brooks is going to be on the team or not on the team, but we have a great team here. My guys here, we’ve had so much fun going back and forth, and these group texts are just awesome.”
