“I swear to God I need help,” said the man quiet at the other end of the line.

The Ethiopian, who called himself Mike, said he was made with 450 others in a building inside Myanmar, along the border of the country in Thailand.

They are in Thousands of people released From the famous scam compounds living on the border for many years, thus the most difficult action is more likely to be contrary to the Thai-Myanmar border.

But many of them have been stranded in Myanmar in Makeshift camps because the process of evaluating them and arranging traveling back in their own countries is very slow.

The armed militian groups holding them have a limited capacity to support many people – more than 7,000. One of them says they stopped freeing people from compounds because they were not moved in Thailand rapidly.

The BBC understood that the conditions of the camps were not sure, food was not enough, and many of the released workers, like Mike, was not good health. He suffered terror attacks, after working for a year at a scam center where he was always beaten.

He told us they got two basic meals a day, only two toilets for 450 people, which he said now.

Mike described that one year was invited to get his promise to be a good job, in Thailand, only requiring English skills and typing English and typing skills.

Instead he found himself covered with a brutal regime, forced to work a lot of time each day to meet the target of people who cheat on his dense interests.

“It’s the worst experience of my life. Of course it beats me. But believe me I see more severely done to other people. “

Mike is one of the estimated 100,000 people who are supposed to be attracted to work on the Thai-Myanmar border operations that enjoy the offense of this part of Myanmar.

Although disturbing accounts of abuse from escaping past, thousands from parts of the world where good work in good money.

China, where many of the scam victims come from, acting to close scam operations on myanmar’s own boundary, but this year does not have many Thai-Myanmar boundaries.

Amanan, a young Bangladesh man, returned to Thailand to try to help 17 friends still have. He said he promised himself to do it after his own sad escape from one of the most famous scam centers in October.

He showed us a short, shaky video in the compound, built in a remote valley, where he was blocked, and remembers the terrible treat that he and his friends suffered from their Chinese bosses.

“They give us a target every week, $ 5,000. If not, they give us two electric shocks. Or we don’t have windows. But if we have more money.

Arionan needs to come to men in the middle of the east and draw them in moving funds to clear investments. Using AI, the scammers make him visible on the screen to become an attractive young woman, again his voice.

The release of scam workers began for more than two weeks ago after Thailand, under the pressure from China and some of the Chinese politicians and telecommunications links to the border compounds.

It limits banking access to scam bosses and issued soldiers’ arrests for some militia business leaders.

That was hit by business, but it also hit ordinary karen people living nearby even more difficult, forcing militia commanders to showcase the willingness of the scam centers. They started to help those who seek to escape, and fully evacuate some compounds.

Mike’s camp is now led by the democratic cartonic Karen Favelolent Army, DKBA, a breakaway faction of the ethnic Karen Community.

Until recently, it protects many scam compounds that have grown in its territory. You can find it easy to drive along the moei river dividing both countries – can’t expanses with new boundary boundary fields.

Thailand suggests that it works as much as possible to process former scam workers and replace them at home.

A group of 260 released workers were carried over the Moei river in a raft earlier this month. And around 621 Chinese nationals were flying straight to China using a police escort in chartered plants. Otherwise the movement of released workers in Thailand seemed surprised.

Many Myanmar scam compounds appear from Thai border

The problem is that they are from many different countries, with some that are not done to help their people at home. About 130 in the first 260 arrived from Ethiopia, without a Bangkok Embassy.

BBC told other African countries just fly their people at home if another fee. Most free workers do not have anything; Even their passports are restricted to compound bosses.

Thailand is afraid that brings over thousands of people who need to take care of ever. It also wants to screne it to find out what real victims of human trafficking and that may have criminal acts, but do not have the ability to do it with a large group of people.

Different ministers and agencies, including soldiers, are involved in managing this problem, and must agree with who. It does not help many senior police and immigration officers are transferred to their said business participation in scam.

“If this issue is not resolved, we will not stop working on it – we have to work seriously,” as Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn sinwater Tuesday in Bangkok. But he defines a wider problem with the scam business, not the growing humanitarian crisis among the released workers.

“Unfortunately, it seems we’re in a bit of a standstill,” says Judah Tana, an Australian who runs an Ngo which has for years ever helping the victims of trafficking in the scam centers.

Thailand now seems to be willing to bring a group of 94 Indonesia, because their embassy has pushed their release for many days and booked trips for Indonesia for them.

But that leaves more than 7,000 still within Myanmar, not sure what happens to them.

Mike tells me that he and the other with him is afraid that if they are not allowed to cross Thailand, they can be handed over to the scam bosses, where they can face the penalty for trying to leave.

On Wednesday night his panic attacks and breathing were very bad, he said, they took him to the hospital.

“I just wanted to go home,” he said on the phone. “I just wanted to come back to my country. That’s what I asked.”
