Under-pressure Tottenham manager Thomas Frank has hailed their “magical” Champions League win at home to Borussia Dortmund as proof that everyone at the club is “on the same page”.
First-half goals from Christian Romero and Dominic Solanke earned Spurs a 2-0 victory over ten-man Dortmund, lifting Franco’s side into the top eight in automatic qualification.
But the home results have put the Dane under huge pressure, with last Saturday’s home defeat to lowly London rivals West Ham prompting boos and shouts from his fans that he was “sacked in the morning”.
Despite a turbulent week, in which his future was in serious doubt amid talks with the club’s hierarchy on Monday lunchtime, Frank bounced back on Tuesday night as Spurs fans cheered on their team for the first time in 2026 after a five-game winless start to the new year.
“That energy between the fans and the players was magical,” he said at the post-match press conference.
Asked if this performance proved he was worth sticking around, Frank laughed: “I think it’s about the team and everything, but of course I understand the question.
“What I feel all the time is that the staff is with us, I think the players are with us, the ownership, everyone wants the same thing and we are on the same page.
“We’re doing a lot of things in the right direction and today was a big performance and a big win. Of course, I’m very aware of that, but I’m also very aware that we’ve done this and we’ve got to keep that consistency and turn it around a little bit.”
“Like I said, some of the other games we could have easily won. Now we have to build on this one.”
“And I just see a team working very, very hard and I think that’s a very, very good sign. It’s a healthy sign of a culture and we’re building something a little bit at a time.”
“We can easily have better results in the last three games, we just haven’t, but we are running hard.”
“I think the big thing is to build on this with the performance and the win against Burnley.”
Asked how he would celebrate, Frank said: “I think it’s going to take two big glasses of red, I’m going to enjoy it.”
Solanke: Dortmund’s win gives us momentum for the Burnley clash
Attention now turns to Saturday’s Premier League trip to relegation-threatened Burnley, where only a win is good enough for Frank.
Spurs are in 14th place in the Premier League, and if they were to lose at Turf Moor they could find themselves just seven points above the relegation zone.
Solanke’s first goal of the season on his first start of the campaign will be a huge boost for Franco heading into the game against Scott Parker’s side – with the forward hoping victory over Dortmund will give Spurs “momentum” for this weekend’s clash.
When asked if the win could be a turning point in what has been a rather dismal season for Spurs so far, Solanke said TNT Sports: “I hope so.
“We did quite well in the Champions League and if you look back at last season and how good we were in the Europa League, it definitely gave the team confidence.”
“We know that we weren’t good enough in the Premier League this year, so we hope that this will give us an extra boost, that we can progress in the league and continue in the Champions League.”
“When we’re all together – the players, the staff, the fans – that’s key. We’re all one club, we all want the same thing. We’ve got to perform on the pitch like we did tonight and hopefully we can keep the momentum going.”
