Google Photos will now let you create memes with your own pictures. On Thursday, Google introduced a new AI-powered generative feature called “Me Meme”, which will allow you to combine photo templates and images of yourself to generate meme images.
The new addition, which will be available to users based in the US, is original spotted in development last October by the Android Authority blog. It’s official declare by Google via the Photo Community site on Thursday.
According to Google, the feature is experimental, so the generated image “may not match the original photo.” We recommend uploading bright, focused, and front-facing photos for best results.
The addition is just a fun way to explore photos and experiment with Google’s Gemini AI technology, and Nano Banana in particular. Google’s popular AI image model power other AI features in the Google Photos applike the ability to recreate images in new styles, such as cartoons or paintings.
While not a serious addition, all things considered, these features help remind users to return to the Photos app whenever they want to play around with AI tools, rather than to competing products.
Plus, users tend to gravitate towards features that show themselves in AI editing, as OpenAI was found to be successful from the Sora app, which allows you to create AI videos that can include you and your friends.
“Me Meme” hasn’t fully rolled out yet, so you can’t see it in the updated Google Photos app yet. If available, it will appear in the “Create” tab, Google said.
