A former defense lawyer for imprisoned drug Lord Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán was chosen as a judge of the first judicial election in Mexico.

Long published Tuesday show that Silvia Delgado has won enough votes to secure a position as a local criminal judge in the city of Ciudad Juárez, on the US-Mexican border.

His candidacy is one of the most controversial elections made on 1 June.

A leading transparency organization delgado was accused of a large candidate for organized links to the wrapball of wrapped, fighting that he did his job by protecting the El Chapo.

The 51-year-old lawyer is part of the defense team for El Chapo before the famous drug space has been obtained from Mexico in the United States in 2017.

In an interview with the BBC ahead of the election, Delgado argues that El Chapo has the right to legal advice and dismisses the suggestions of interest, he must be selected as a judge.

After printing tally voting on Tuesday, Delgado said he wouldn’t comment until his victory was officially confirmed.

The judicial election is the first of this kind to make in Mexico after a radical reform carried by the managed Morning Party.

The Creators who select Judges – including the Supreme Court Watchtower – in a direct vote makes the judiciary more democratic and see voters.

But these critics argue that it harms the freedom of the judiciary.

Turnout is under 13% – the lowest of any federal vote produced by Mexico – which many observers have been indicated by the Mexicans to the Mexicans.

However President Claudia Seinbaum said the election was a great success.
