A few weeks later Greg Biffle and six more were killed in a plane crash in North Carolinathieves stole $30,000 in cash from the former NASCAR driver’s home, according to a police report obtained by WCNC Charlotte.
The theft was reported on Thursday, January 8, when the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call from Biffle’s estate in Mooresville, North Carolina. The police report states that in addition to the stolen money, a backpack was also stolen. Sheriff Darren Campbell said the AP that weapons and souvenirs were also missing.
As of Wednesday, January 14, no arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
“We’re working the case,” Campbell said Wednesday. “We’re waiting for some digital evidence.”
Biffle died on December 18, 2025, at the age of 58, when his plane crashed while attempting to return to Statesville Regional Airport in Statesville, North Carolina. Calls to 9-1-1 obtained by TMZ on Jan. 6 detailed “a huge fire” at the scene, where a caller said a “small to medium-sized plane” had crashed.
“I don’t know how many people were on board, but I know there are at least two pilots,” the caller said. “Probably at least four passengers.”
Another caller described the Cessna Citation 550 as falling “straight down,” resulting in a “huge explosion.”
“We just have a plane flying over our heads and crashing into the tree line,” the caller said.
The families of the victims also issued a statement on the evening of the accident.
“We are devastated by the loss of our loved ones,” the statement said. “This tragedy has left all of our families heartbroken beyond words,” the families said. “Greg and Cristina were devoted parents and active philanthropists whose lives centered around their young son Ryder and Greg’s daughter Emma (mother, Nicole Lunders).”
Biffle and the other victims will be remembered at a memorial service on Friday, January 16 in Charlotte.
