Ty Haney, a woman who brings you sports gowns, returns to her athleisure company Outdoor soundAs a partner and co-owner before launching her new term today.
“We’re back, baby.” Haney says in the scroll posted to OV Instagram last week. The original outdoor voice says she starts On-the-job Again late last year, a private equity firm bought a struggling brand and asked Haney to go home shortly after.
It’s a full-blown moment, in the overall bumps of OV:
- The DTC brand peaked in 2018 five years after its inception, with a millennial follower and a $110 million valuation.
- Its valuation fell to $40 million in early 2020. The board of directors at that time push Haney serves as CEO in a highly publicized quarrel.
- OV reported the first profit month shortly after June 2020, but the overhaul did not continue – OV closed all stores last year and then accepted the acquisition offer to avoid bankruptcy.
Now…Haney recently told the Texas Monthly that she wanted to propose to Gen Z in more “stylish and sexy” sportswear. Her return comes in an era when everyone (including high-end fashion) is doing casual activities, while direct competitors like Vuori and Alo are gradually growing.– Ml
