- Playmonster Games bought Taco vs. Burrito for an undisclosed amount. The game was invented by a 7-year-old who directed it to a unit sold 1.5 million times with the help of his parents. Although it succeeded, “it was never something I was attached to.” Creator Alex Butler said that despite its success.
Alex Butler made $1 million and was only seven years old. A game he invented called Taco vs Burrito has arrived Amazon– By the end of 2018, it had sales of approximately $1.1 million.
Now, after supervising the game’s empire with parents, Butler sold the game’s rights to Playmonsterits other famous products include Toxoin in my spaghetti, Farkle and Yeti. Terms of the deal have not been announced, but Taco vs. Burrito (retailing at $20 on Amazon) has sold 1.5 million copies. The game also has two expansion packs.
Playmonster said it will continue to expand the game, with a version of Collector Tin coming later this year.
Butler, currently 15, said he was not particularly sad to see his creation continue to move forward. He said it was never really something I wanted to do for the rest of my life.
“It was never something I was attached to or anything.” He told Seattle Times. “It doesn’t matter to me. I just want to make the most money from it.”
Alex’s mother is an entrepreneur herself, so she encouraged her son when he came up with the idea after a toy game like Kittens. The family will walk to a nearby coffee shop/party venue to test the prototype, which will lead to Alex’s new rules.
To cover the production costs, he launched an online fundraising campaign that brought in $25,000. Alex’s parents set up a gaming company (Alex is a majority shareholder), found the manufacturer, and placed the game on Amazon. It took off quickly and never slowed down.
Although there were acquisition offers in the past, the family said they never felt right. When they started talking to Playmonster, it was really the case.
Don’t expect any matches from Alex, though. He said his interests have shifted to music production, sports and video games.
