After the news about their surprise romance, tell me lies‘ Spencer House i Sonia Mena they made rare comments about their off-game relationship.
House, 33, and Mena, 28, reflected on their many co-star relationships tell me lies co-stars during an exclusive joint interview with Us Weekly at Clarins’ Sugar & Shine Galentine’s Affair in Los Angeles on Thursday, January 29.
“It doesn’t make any sense,” Mena said before joking, “Because on-screen relationships are terrifying. We’re very different from the people we play.”
Mena and House, who play on-screen couple Pippa and Wrigley respectively, credited the casting director Lauren Gray. They emphasized, however, that they couldn’t be more apart of the characters they represent in the hit Hulu series.
While fans watched their characters explore complicated relationships on Tell Me Lies, the cast of the hit Hulu series was seeing sparks fly off screen in their own love lives. “Obviously we’re very different. When you spend so much time with the people you work with, there’s a spark,” he noted. “But there’s a line between us and work.”
based on Carola LoveringThe novel of the same name, Tell Me Lies, follows the messy relationship between college students Lucy (Grace Van Patten) and Stephen (Jackson White). Off-screen, Van Patten and White sparked romance rumors after Season 1 premiered in 2022. Brandon Cookmeanwhile, he recently got engaged Katherine Hugheswho plays his character Evan’s love interest.
Earlier this month it was noted that Mena and House have been dating for several years after meeting on set. They became close after their characters were paired for the show’s three seasons, although Pippa and Wrigley they have since apparently split up on the screen.
“We work a lot, but then we don’t spend as much time together (on set), but we still hang out a lot,” Mena said. webefore telling House, “I miss doing scenes with you. But then it also made the ones we did a lot more fun.”
House agreed that there was “less” content between Wrigley and Pippa, adding: “(But) we shoot a lot of scenes at the same time, on a different block schedule. So between takes, you can go to the next set and say, ‘Hi.’
Season 3, which premiered in January, blew viewers away hinting at romance between Wrigley and Bree (cat missal). House had said earlier we that he “loved” adding a new component to his character’s backstory.
“That was the most fun I’ve had in any season. It’s because Wrigley had an arc that had an upward trajectory,” he shared. “The first two were spirals, which were good in their own way.”
House continued, “But for me, as someone who has come to work every day embodying that, it was nice to have an upward trajectory. It was meaningful and nice.”
Production is now underway tell me lies wrapped up, House and Mena have more time to spend together. Valentine’s Day, however, will look a little different for the low-key couple this year.
“Hopefully we’re in the same city,” she told us at Clarins’ Galentine’s Day event, which highlighted the brand’s iconic Lip Perfector. “I’m planning something, but it’ll be before or after Valentine’s Day. Every now and then, I’ll throw in a little surprise.”
