SZA he said no hard feelings as he broke his silence Cher mis-advertising this late music icon Luther Vandross had won record of the year at the 2026 Grammys.
“We share the frequency of the song,” SZA, 36, said during an interview with Entertainment tonight following the star-studded ceremony, which was held at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on Sunday, February 1.

“Like, that’s her frequency that allowed us to win and that allowed it to be memorable. So she’s not wrong. And it’s from that era, she probably really knew Luther Vandross,” SZA added of the R&B great, who died in 2005 at age 54.
The stars came out to celebrate music’s biggest night at the Grammys 2026. “Of course, his brain and energy is connecting that energy to the energy that we’re sharing. We’re discarding what Luther already gave us,” SZA continued. “So we’re grateful. It’s like I wish I could talk to him.”
Vandross’ team also shared a cheerful clip while reacting to Cher’s live TV flubincluding a snippet from Sunday’s awards show, as well as a throwback clip of Vandross accepting one of his own Grammys. “If only we could turn back time @Cher ❤️,” the caption read, referencing her 1989 hit “If I could turn back time.”
Fans are still relishing Cher’s memorable moment on stage at the Grammys to present the Record of the Year trophy.
“I don’t play that part very well,” the 79-year-old singer said after being honored for her illustrious musical career. “First I want to thank the Recording Academy for giving me this lifetime achievement award. And it’s a good thing they did it now, because I have good genes and I wouldn’t have been here that long.”
“I’ve been in this business for 60 years, but I just want to tell you, never give up on your dream, no matter what,” Cher told the crowd. “Live it up, be it, and if it doesn’t happen now, it will happen soon.”
As he prepared to leave the stage, the host Trevor Noah he called her again.

After Vandross was mistakenly announced as the winner, she was seen in the audience smiling and fans took to social media to chime in.
“Congratulations to Kendrick Lamar and SZA for resurrecting Luther Vandross so Cher could let us know she won!” one published in X.
“Come on people Cher did her best and she is a LEGEND. People make mistakes give her a break,” another person wrote in her defense.
One thing’s for sure: Vandross definitely got some extra love. “First of all,” Sounwave said as he accepted the award, “shout out to the great Luther Vandross.”
