strange things raised the stakes at the start of the fifth and final season, but will fans be satisfied with the series finale?
During an exclusive interview with Us Weekly, dear good influenced the end of the show – starting with her character, Karen, and on-screen husband Ted (Joe Chrest).
“Like any relationship over the years, there’s a lot that goes unsaid between two people. I think the show ends in the best way for everyone,” Buono teased. “With every big show, you can’t please everyone, but I think the audience will be very happy.”
Buono praised the creators Matt Duffer i Ross Duffer for doing “an amazing job” with how they ended the season “for everyone.” For the actress, filming the finale felt like a full-circle moment.
“I remember the read-through before we started (on Season 5) and we were all together as a cast. It was a great moment. We embarked on what would be a full year, which is really unheard of, especially on TV. We all thought, ‘This is going to take a long time.’ But I felt like it was going by really fast,” he noted. “And the last day of the show for me was the last day of shooting.”

Buono recalled the “very emotional” day. “Everybody was there, the families were there and I was in the last set up for the end of the show,” he said. we. “So it was a really beautiful moment. Because in Season 1, I was on the first day, the first scene, the first take. For me, it came full circle at the end. It was just a matter of going out trying not to cry and getting to deliver my lines.”
strange thingswhich debuted in 2016, focuses on a fictional city where a series of supernatural events take place that cause mystery and chaos. After keeping up with what was going on in Hawkins for the first four seasons, Buono was excited to see Karen’s luck change in the most recent episodes.
“I just wanted Karen to get off the couch and fight. And they did,” he said of the scene in the first part where Karen fought a Demogorgon. “The Duffers approached the scene like filmmakers, which I like. There was a seriousness to it even though it was so much fun. Emotion is always the driver of the action. So, more than a fight, the narrative is what Karen is unleashing right now and what she’s doing to protect her son.”
The first part of season 5 is over with Karen at the hospital. According to Buono, his character is “alive” and hopefully he’ll join the action before the series ends. Season 5 also connects to Stranger Things: The First Shadowwhich is a prequel play that plays Hawkins in the 1960s when Karen was a teenager.
“There’s a lot of lore. There’s so many directions the show can go, from what happened before to where it can go in the future. What we see in the play are really fun portrayals of Karen and Joyce and a lot of the characters. It’s always fun to see how they’ve changed over the years,” he explained. “I’d be curious to see what happens after all of this for Karen as the ’90s begin and where she goes from here, especially after she runs into a Demogorgon. As she moves on with her life, to me, that’s an interesting story.”
Buono concluded, “Especially if he moves out of Hawkins once Holly is in college, (maybe) he decides to fulfill some unfulfilled dreams and maybe move to New York.”
strange things returns to Netflix with volume 2 on December 25th and the finale drops on December 31st.
