Mary Brown was legally married Kody Brown from 1990 to 2014, and is still spiritually married to him. However, he admitted in the trailer for season 16 of Sister Wiveswhich premiered in November 2021, that she has “thought everything through,” including leaving Kody, as she continues her rocky relationship. The revelation came after he promised he wouldn’t be “going anywhere” in December 2020.
“Love this man. 💙 I don’t owe anyone an explanation, but I’m going to do it anyway. I’m very aware that we as a family have chosen to put ourselves ‘out there’, which in turn leads to all kinds of speculation, comments and opinions. But it all boils down to this. My relationship with him is through years. I mean, isn’t that a bit normal?) High highs and lows,” she wrote at the time. “But here’s my truth. I love him. I love my family. I’m committed. I’ve been at this for 30 years. We fight. We communicate. We repair relationships as the parties involved want and can. I’m an independent person doing my own thing… I’m here. I’m committed. I’m not going anywhere. I’m not going anywhere.”
Following news of Kody and Christine’s split in November 2021, an insider claimed that we that he and Meri have had “zero relationship” in recent years. “It’s all fake,” the source alleged. “They’re together for TV, basically.”
Meri and Kody’s ups and downs continued to be a storyline during the series’ 17th season, which premiered in September 2022. During an October 2022 episode, Meri revealed that Kody had suggested she move to Utah to run his bed and breakfast after her mother’s death.
The idea of living away from him and his family shocked the mother of one. “I was here at the beginning. I helped build this family. It was him and me and we had plans. He loved me,” Meri said during a confessional as she fought back tears. “For him to just say, ‘Um, just go up now.’ It didn’t make sense.”
Kody, meanwhile, told the cameras, “The reason I’m suggesting this to Meri is, honestly, as a family (we) don’t seem to interact that much. I’m not even trying to push her away.”
During the season 17 finale, which aired in December 2022, Kody confessed that he still didn’t want to fix his relationship with Meri. “It’s interesting to hear him talk about that and the parallels that (are) going on with him and Christine and me and him,” Meri explained during a confessional. “It’s kind of disturbing because some of the things he’s frustrated with Christine about, he did with me. Oh, he wants to work on it with Christine, but not me.”
Kody, meanwhile, noted, “Ironically, Meri is trying to support me and I don’t want to be in a relationship with her anymore.”
During the first part of season 17 Sister Wives: One to One special, Meri confirmed that she and Kody were no longer together and said, “I just made the decision” without asking for his input. She noted that while she felt her ex-spouse was “trying” when they first moved to Arizona in 2018, their relationship soon fell apart.
In January 2023, Kody and Meri released a joint statement saying they had decided to “finally end” their marriage. Meri revealed via Instagram in January 2024 that she is dating a man named masters. However, Meri and Amos separated a month later.
During a December 2025 episode Sister WivesKody visited Meri in Utah to apologize for his past actions. “Listen, (an) apology is very much needed here because this is still so toxic. And I apologize for that,” he said.
Meri asked, “Are you apologizing for being toxic to me, or are you just being general?” Kody replied, “Yes, I apologize for being toxic to you, Meri, or to you.”
Kody concluded by saying that he hoped he and Meri “keep a good place for each other,” while Meri said that Kody’s actions no longer “affect her.”
