Sony Open in Hawaii: England’s John Parry to one shot from half lead | Golf News

A late dropped shot left England’s John Parry one stroke off the lead at the PGA Tour’s season-opening Sony Open in Hawaii.

Parry recovered from two shots off the turn with back-to-back birdies to take a share of the lead before dropping another shot at the 16th.

His second-round 68 leaves him at eight under, one behind a five-way tie for the lead that includes defending champion Nick Taylor of Canada and Belgium’s Adrien Dumont de Chassart.

The wind was strong and the shots,” Taylor said. “A lot of the holes were relatively sideways, so it was difficult to get accurate yardage.

“Sometimes it would hurt, sometimes it would help. You almost had to time your shots and get a little lucky.”

Parry’s countryman Harry Hall is two shots back, while Scotland’s Robert McIntyre finished with two bogeys – after dropping two shots at the second – to sit at two under par.

That’s on par with former Masters champion and US PGA champion Vijay Singh, who made the cut on his return to the PGA Tour at age 62.
