Senate Republicans shown A deepfake video of Chuck Schumer, the Senate Minority Leader, designed to make Democrats celebrate the death of the government, which has lasted 16 days.

In the original story, Schumer discussed the Democrats’ dead-end strategy – saying he would not return to the Republican playbook of threats and “Bambooz(ling).”

According to X’s policy, the platform prohibits “sharing good (in) synthetic or synthetic or manipulated media that will cause harm.” Harmful content includes media that may “mislead people” or “cause significant confusion about public issues.”
Enforcement actions include removing content, warning labels, or reducing visibility. X does not, as of the time of this writing, remove the deepfake or add a warning label – although the video does include a sign of AI origin.
Schumer’s video isn’t the first time X has allowed deepfakes of politicians to remain on the platform. By the end of 2024, X owner Elon Musk Shared A leaked video of former Vice President Kamala Harris in the lead-up to the election, fueling the debate about the wrong voter.
