The US Senate has advanced a resolution that would prevent President Donald Trump from making further decisions Military action against Venezuela Without authorization from Congress, pave the way for further consideration in the 100-member chamber.
The vote on the procedural measure to advance the war powers resolution was 52 to 47, as some of Trump’s fellow Republicans voted alongside every Democrat in favor of proceeding.
The vote came days after Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro was captured by US forces in a dramatic military raid in Caracas. Trump’s fellow Republicans blocked two earlier attempts to advance a similar resolution in the Senate last year, as the administration ramped up military pressure on Venezuela by attacking boats in the southern Caribbean since September.
