Keegan Bradley insists he would “love” the chance to captain Team USA again in the Ryder Cup, having been left with a “gaping hole” in his career following their loss to Team Europe.
Bradley became the first captain – for any team – since 2012 to be beaten in the domestic Ryder Cup, where Luke Donald’s European side built a record two-day lead before winning 15-13 at Bethpage Black.
The PGA of America has yet to announce who will captain Team USA in the 2027 event at Adare Manor in Ireland, live on Ski Sportswith Bradley open to the idea of returning to the role in the future.
“I have this gaping hole in my career right now that I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to fill,” Bradley said ahead of the Hero World Challenge. “This is not something where you lose the Masters or a tournament, where I’m going to work extra hard to come back and win.
“Being captain of a Ryder Cup team isn’t something you work hard at, it’s just something that’s kind of chosen for you. Of course I’d like to do it again, I’d like to avenge that loss, but it’s not up to me.
“I don’t think it’s fair to come here and say it, but I’d love to do it again at some point. I don’t know if it’s ever going to happen, probably not. I think if you ask any losing captain if they’d like to do it again, they’d all want another shot.”
Tiger Woods is the favorite to be the next captain of Team USA but said earlier this week that ‘no one has asked’ for him to take the role, two years after turning down the opportunity because of his role on the PGA Tour.
“I think if Tiger wants to do this, he’s going to do it,” Bradley insisted. “Tiger is not only a hero to all of us who would be on his team, but he is also an amazing leader and a person that everyone would love to play for.”
“I’m pretty sure he’ll be able to do it when he wants to do this.”
Bradley: Ryder Cup ‘takes a toll on you’
Bradley was considering becoming the first Ryder Cup captain since Arnold Palmer in 1963 before he left himself out of his six picks, having won the Travelers Championship in June and reached the Tour Championship at the end of the season.
“With everything going on, I’m really proud of the way I played,” Bradley explained of his season. “But when you consider the Ryder Cup loss, I mean, it’s F.”
“You have to go and win it, and this grade is different. It’s really hard to grade. It was a unique year. I think it’s a year that really no other player has ever experienced. I’m certainly proud of the way I played, but the end of the year was tough.”
On the challenge of dealing with the Ryder Cup loss, Bradley added: “Probably the darkest time of my life. I mean, I don’t know how else to describe it. Definitely, definitely (the worst) of my career.”
“There’s always disappointment after the Ryder Cup or the President’s Cup, no matter the outcome, because the emotions are so extreme. It’s a Ryder Cup hangover and you’re just exhausted and you’re down – it takes a toll on you.
