Ryan Garcia faces deep water with Mario Barrios

Coach Bob Santos isn’t selling the hope. He is writing a comparison. In his opinion, Mario Barrios would beat Ryan Garcia if Barrios was shown to be right. If the wrong thing is done, the fight will quickly escalate. Either way, Santos sees this fight as less of a graduation for Garcia and more of a test that he failed to pass.

Santos is no longer in Barrios’ corner. Barrios moved to Joe Goossen for this camp, the same coach Garcia worked with earlier in his career. Santos is speaking from abroad now, but from a normal position. He knows where Barrios’ version is, even if he’s no longer responsible for bringing it out.

Santos’ idea in the Barrios, which surpassed Yordenis Ugas in 2023. That version, he said, will win about sixty-five to thirty-five. The tip comes from the boss. Far away. The ability to stay calm when the fight slows down and still do something useful when a change is needed. Santos is equally vocal about the other thing. Barrios, who drifted in twelve rounds with Manny Pacquiao and Abel Ramos, turned fifty fifty straight.

Garcia enters the fight with less credentials than history. He’s coming off a loss to Rolando Romero, and Santos counts that as motivation rather than strength. Speaking to MillCity Boxing, Santos made the fight a line in the sand for Garcia. It is not a distinctive feature. In practice. Lose here, no more excuses.

Garcia’s career will not be a failure. The fighting game will no longer condone such frivolity. What will hurt is the road to an expensive fight with WBC champion Conor Benn. That fight depends on time and understanding. The loss to Barrios makes it difficult to sell as an important step, even if the promoters can push it to the fans.

For Santos, this comes down to experience. Garcia has never held a world title and hasn’t faced much trouble. There are barrios. Size, patience, and multitasking ability all come in his way when he’s committed to fighting instead of panicking. It’s not about speed or fun. It depends on what can be done if the plan doesn’t work anymore. If Barrios fights like a pro, Garcia is in for a long night.

Barrios also had a better fight in his loss to Gervonta Davis than Garcia. He shared the ring with Keith Thurman, Manny Pacquiao, Yordenis Ugas, and Abel Ramos. The experience is heavy.
