Russia frees French researcher Vinatieu convicted under the “foreign agents” law.




Russia has freed Laurent Vinatieu, a French researcher serving a three-year prison sentence for violating laws requiring “foreign agents” to register with authorities. Vinatier will be replaced by detained basketball player Daniil Kasatkin, who is accused by the US of hacking. Russian media reported that Vinatier was pardoned by President Vladimir Putin.
