Robin Wright thought Derek Hough was married to sister Julianne Hough

Derek Hough and sister Julianne Hough they share a special connection that, according to Robin Wrightit can look a lot like marriage.

While attending the 2026 Golden Globe Awards at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles on Sunday (January 11), Wright, 59, opened up to Derek, 40, on the red carpet about his confusion over the siblings’ relationship.

“Wait, you’re Julianne’s brother, I love her,” he said girlfriend The star told Derek while interviewing him ExtraTV. “Can I tell you something? When I first saw her dance, I was like, ‘They’re married.'”

Derek accepted Wright’s admission gracefully, reassuring her that “I get that sometimes,” before he weighed in on the couple. “You guys are amazing together. I follow you guys on Instagram and I see you move,” Wright told Derek, referring to the frequent dancing videos with Julianne, 37, shared via their respective Instagram accounts.

Wright’s confusion comes after Julianne, who works as a reality dance TV series host Dancing with the stars alongside judge Derek, recently admitted that the fans have been too confused about its dynamics in the past.

While interviewed for a September 2025 episode of the “Chicks in the Office” podcast, Julianne explained that she and her brother were tasked with doing a rumba together for Carrie Ann Inabaone of Derek’s fellow judges, while participating in a live show DWTS turns (A rumba is a Latin dance also known as a “love” dance.)

Julianne recalled, “Our names on the show were ‘Derek and Julianne Hough,’ so everyone thought we were married and doing this rumba thing. When people found out we were brother (and) sister, I remember there was a place … and we just felt like, ‘This is wrong!’

Two months later, the brothers open about his relationship exclusively with Us Weekly. During an interview in November 2025, conducted just before DWTS‘ On the 20th anniversary episode, the duo reflected on how much they’ve enjoyed working together. (Julianne danced as a professional for five seasons and judged for five more seasons before serving as co-host with Alfonso Ribeirowhile Derek spent 17 seasons as a professional before becoming a judge.)

“I actually want to give flowers to Jules. When he came on the show, he changed the trajectory of DWTS forever,” Derek said we at that time. “She became the model for what we see now: that versatile dancer. She came in and disrupted the whole scene.”

Julianne shared the same praise for her brother, saying we“I’m Derek’s biggest fan. He literally made me want to fall on the floor with all the compliments. He’s always the first person to recognize me and see me for who I am. He’s always got my back, and I know I can trust my brother to always be there because he’s shown that.”

The couple said so too we that, like most siblings, sibling rivalry can rear its head at times. “When she went (on the show), I was like, ‘Oh, OK, now I’ve got to go on,'” Derek said before Julianne added: “I’d be blown away in the competitive Latin dance world that (we were) in as kids. But I said, “Oh, now you’re coming into my territory.”
