Relative of arrested man shares where he was when Nancy Guthrie disappeared


The mother-in-law of Carlos Palazuelosthe man who was detained for questioning in connection with the disappearance of Savannah Guthriethe mother of Nancy Guthrieis sharing information about his whereabouts at the time Nancy went missing.

“He works from Monday to Friday. He’s home on Friday,” Palazuelos’ mother-in-law. Josephinehe said NewsNation in an interview published on Wednesday, February 11, after Palazuelos’ release from police custody. “He stays at home on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. He goes back to work on Mondays. So on the weekends, he stays at my house. He doesn’t go anywhere.”

Addressing where Palazuelos was on the night of Jan. 31, the night Nancy, 84, was last seen by her family, Josefina said: “Yes, she was here (at my house). … I’m sure she was here at my house. She was here for her children on the weekend.”

Josefina also said her son-in-law is a “good guy” with no criminal record.

A location in Rio Rico, Arizona is subject to a “court-authorized search” in connection with the Nancy Guthrie kidnapping investigation. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department in Arizona, with the assistance of the FBI, took Palazuelos in for questioning on Tuesday, February 10.

“Early today, officers with the Pima County Sheriff’s Department detained a subject during a traffic stop in south Tucson,” Sheriff Chris Nanos said in a statement via X. “The subject is currently being questioned in connection with the Nancy Guthrie investigation. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.”

The sheriff’s department also confirmed it was conducting a “court-authorized search” of a home in Rio Rico.

Palazuelos was released after being questioned by the authorities. In an interview with ABC15 Arizona’s Ford HatchettPalazuelos said his car was pulled over in Rio Rico, Arizona, south of Tucson. He was told he was “under arrest for kidnapping.”

“I asked, ‘Whose kidnapping?’ and they told me that this lady…I don’t know her name,” Palazuelos said before confirming Nancy’s name with Hatchett’s help. “I told (the officers), ‘I work in Tucson for GLS. I might have delivered a package to your house, but I never kidnapped anyone.”

Palazuelos denied knowledge of Nancy’s disappearance, which was reported on February 1.

Earlier Tuesday, the FBI released black-and-white surveillance photos from outside Nancy’s home the night she disappeared. The photos showed a man wearing a ski mask and it appears that he was carrying a firearm in his waistband.

When asked if the man resembled her son-in-law, Josefina said, “He doesn’t.”

“New Images in Search of Nancy Guthrie,” FBI Director Kash Patel he said in a statement. “Over the past eight days, the FBI and the Pima County Sheriff’s Department have been working closely with our private sector partners to continue to recover any images or video footage from Nancy Guthrie’s home that may have been lost, damaged or inaccessible due to various factors, including the removal of recording devices. The video was recovered from residual data located on back-end systems.”

Patel continued, “Working with our partners: As of this morning, law enforcement has uncovered this new previously inaccessible footage showing an armed person who appears to have tampered with the camera at Nancy Guthrie’s front door on the morning of her disappearance.
