rapper wake upknown for his 2020 viral song “Love Cycle” and his 2023 single “Favorite Song,” announced via Instagram on Tuesday, December 2 that he has committed to playing soccer for his hometown team next season.
“PROMISE ππ½ For every kid who’s ever had a dream, make it come true,” he wrote in the caption, alongside a carousel of photos of himself in his Cuse uniform. “God’s will is the way and no one can stop it, not even the devil. I want to thank my lord and savior Jesus Christ even for giving me the strength to pursue what I believed in when so many people told me I couldn’t. Thanks to the people who also supported me, it never goes unnoticed.”
Toosii, whose real name is Nau’Jour Grainger, grew up in Syracuse before moving to North Carolina at age 12. He said in his post that he hasn’t been back since.

Now, at 25, he was playing Toosii high school football in Rolesville, N.C., and was listed as a 5-foot-5 wide receiver and kick returner as a junior in 2016. He did not appear on the school’s roster, published by MaxPreps, as a senior, although the rosters on the high school sports website are often incomplete.
On3, which covers football and basketball recruiting, now describes him as 5-foot-9, 165 pounds, and says he also had offers from Maryland and Sacramento State. Toosii said he also had interest from USC and Duke, according to reports NBC Sports.
The rapper announced his engagement just hours after canceling a scheduled performance in Albany, New York, about 150 miles east of Syracuse. He was scheduled to play the Just a Little Music Festival: Homecoming Edition on Saturday, December 6.
“Due to issues with the artist’s production and other circumstances, this show is unfortunately cancelled,” A Little Booking Agency said in a statement posted on the MVP Arena website. “Our goal is always to give the fan the best experience. Refunds will be made through the point of purchase.”
Although Toosii hasn’t been back to Syracuse since his childhood, it’s not for lack of trying. He had four shows scheduled in his hometown between 2021 and 2023, but each was cancelled for different reasons. In one case, he got to act with lil durkwho suffered an eye injury before the concert. Police removed another performance after allegedly receiving warnings of possible violence at the show.
Despite not returning to Syracuse, Toosii said he still considers the city his home.
“Syracuse is a tough place,” he told The Beat’s Jus Mic in 2023. “They used to say … if you can make it in Syracuse, you can make it in New York. If you can make it in New York, you can make it anywhere.”
Syracuse football is coming off a season that started off promising but ended with eight straight losses, including a 70-7 loss at the hands of Notre Dame on Nov. 22. The Orange are scheduled to open the 2026 season at home against New Hampshire on September 6.
