Rangers’ Danny Rohl predicts final day showdown with Hearts and Celtic in Scottish Premiership title race | Football news

Danny Roll believes the Scottish Premiership title race could go down to a dramatic three-way showdown on the final day of the season.

A non-Old Firm side have not won the Scottish title since Aberdeen in 1985, but shock leaders Hearts are six points ahead of Celtic and Rangers heading into the weekend in the Scottish Cup, where the Gers host League Two side Annan Athletic on Friday night.

The Ibrox boss believes it will be Scotland’s most exciting title race for years after it resumes next week.

“It’s funny because yesterday (Wednesday) we talked about pre-season, we had a meeting about camps and friendlies, all these things,” said Rolle, who confirmed Rangers were “in the process” of recruiting. Danish winger Andreas Skov Olsen after he had already signed Tochi Chukwuani and Tuur Rommens in the transitional period.

“Finally I said, yes, right now I believe that in the last match we might have a three-team race and you can be the best, second or third.”

“It’s nice for the fans. And for us, we have to prepare, we have to work on it.

“We have worked hard in recent weeks to get to that situation. But we also know that there are 16 games left where you have to give again and again – and see what we can do.”

Belgian left-back Rommens joined Rangers from Westerle on Wednesday on an initial three-and-a-half-year deal but will not play against Annan as he builds up his fitness, which could take up to 14 days.

The Ibrox club confirmed on Sunday that 22-year-old Danish midfielder Chukwuani has completed his move from Sturm Graz.

Asked how close he was to signing Skov Olsen, the former Sheffield Wednesday boss said: “I’m not a good poker player. We’re in the process now, it’s looking very positive, but until it’s confirmed and it’s done I can’t tell you too much.”

“I was looking for a left foot on the right side. I think this is also partly because we have a lot of right feet, it also gives us a different profile.

“He (Skov Olsen) had a lot of goals at Club Brugge, and now it’s about us.

“If he comes, if we get him back to his best, then of course he could be a great loan signing.”

Rohl revealed that he is not done recruiting yet, adding: “I can’t tell you the exact number, but we are still looking for some more positions.

“It’s no secret with the Connor (Barron) injury. It’s changed a little bit what we need at this position as well.

“We have strong players, we have a new one with Chukwuani, but there is still a long way to go and we have to make sure our midfield is strong.”
