Meghan MarkleHer mother’s cooking is not as good as her mother’s, according to her husband, Prince Harryat least
The Duke of Sussex crashed his wife’s Love, Meghan: Holiday Celebrationwhich premiered via Netflix on Wednesday, December 3, and received an early Christmas Eve dinner. The food, however, was not exactly what the royal was used to.
“Hi guys,” Harry, 41, said as he entered the kitchen. “I smelled gumbo.”
Harry kissed Meghan before introducing himself to the celebrity chef Tom Colicchioone of the Duchess of Sussex’s special guests featured during the episode.
Meghan before revealed that his mother, Doria Raglandshe only makes gumbo once a year for her family’s Christmas Eve dinner. Meghan decided to try the recipe for her holiday special, sharing the family tradition with her fans.
“Gumbo, for me, is one of my favorites,” Harry said. “Especially his mother’s, but before the fish comes in.”
Meghan said her mother “saves a portion on the side” for Harry as a result of his food preferences.
“My mom makes you turkey sausage, so this one has more kick,” he warned. “I’ll give you a towel. You’re going to sweat.”
“Wonderful,” Harry replied.
After one bite, Harry understood why his wife decided to give him a warning.
“I can feel myself drilling into the top of my head right now,” he joked. “It’s delicious. I’m not so sure it’s as good as your mom’s, but it’s certainly close.”

“My mother will love you for this,” he said. “What a nice thing to say for your mother-in-law.”
Meghan finally thanked Harry for coming with a kiss. She also subtly referenced her husband’s UK roots elsewhere in the holiday special.
While welcoming the restaurateur Will Guidara on the show, Meghan talked about the importance of a Christmas cracker (the toy, not the food) in England.
“Living in the UK, it’s such a big part of (the culture) for the Christmas holidays, that’s for sure,” he explained. “Usually people cross their arms and do that. So they sit around a table and they all stretch at the same time.”
Meghan added: “It actually feels very connected and sweet.”
The Duchess also shared her history with the toy before making them for Harry and his children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
“The way I really started to get to know them was that they would always have a joke or fortune-sized riddle inside or something sweet,” he recalled. The Christmas cracker is a cardboard party favor often filled with confetti and tied at both ends. People separate them during the holidays to have a surprise, or most likely a paper hat.
“We always want confetti inside,” Meghan said as she began making hers. When creating one for Harry specifically, she added “a little love letter, a chocolate (and) a little hat.”
