Police charge ex-husband in murders of Ohio dentist and wife


Police have made an arrest in connection with the Ohio dentist murders Spencer Tepe and his wife, Monique Tepewho were found shot to death in their home more than a week ago.

Michael David McKeeMonique’s ex-husband, was arrested on Saturday, January 10 in Illinois and has been formally charged with the couple’s murder, according to a spokesman for the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office who spoke to Us Weekly.

McKee, 39, was arrested in Winnebago County, Illinois shortly before noon local time.

He will remain in custody until he is extradited to Franklin County, Ohio, where he will appear for a hearing on Monday, January 12. Detectives were able to link McKee, who lives in Chicago, to the murders after reviewing surveillance video that captured his car leaving the area.

Records show McKee graduated from The Ohio State University School of Medicine and has active licenses to perform vascular surgeries in Illinois and California. He was previously licensed in Nevada, where the office of Columbus reported being named in an ongoing personal injury lawsuit.

The researchers said that the Tepes were shot to death in the upstairs of their home in Columbus between 2:00 and 5:00 a.m. on December 30, 2025.

The couple lived in the Weinland Park neighborhood of Columbus with their two young children and a goldendoodle. the Office has reported. The children were not injured.

While speaking with WSYX on Thursday, Jan. 8, Columbus Police Chief Elaine Bryant said, “We know there are a lot of concerns and a lot of questions surrounding this case.”

An online obituary for the couple, who met online, says: “Spencer and Monique met online and quickly built their relationship into a solid foundation of love and respect with a side of silliness.”

They married in a private ceremony attended only by their loved ones on December 13, 2020, according to the obituary.

Both were the “life of the party,” according to friends, who said they would host various gatherings for family and friends, the obituary said.

Spencer, 37, was “passionate about dentistry,” playing soccer and golf, “entertaining family and friends” and focusing on “taking care of his family,” according to the obituary.

Monique, 39, “was a stay-at-home mom known for her bright smile, infectious laugh, caring heart and bubbly personality.”

On the morning of Dec. 30, one of Spencer Tepe’s co-workers at Athens Dental Depot called the police around 9 a.m. after he didn’t show up for work, she said. the Office.

More than a week before the murders, on the morning of Dec. 19, 2025, a woman who lived near the couple called 911 because someone was “blocking” her door, Fox News reported, citing a 911 transcript.

The woman told a dispatcher she didn’t know who was at her home, the company said. Call logs of the incident said “the problem went out” about 15 minutes later.

A memorial service and celebration of life for the couple will be held on Sunday, January 11, 2026.

The Office reported that Monique married McKee in August 2015. She filed for divorce less than two years later, in May 2017.
