Police believe 15-year-old girl is in danger after missing with 41-year-old man


Police in Texas believe a 15-year-old girl is in grave danger a week after she disappeared with a 41-year-old man.

Maryuri Yolani Gomez Marquez was last seen in Plains, Texas around 8 a.m. on Sunday, December 28, according to a statement from the Texas Department of Public Safety on Tuesday, December 30, 2025. Shortly after her disappearance, an AMBER Alert was issued in connection with her disappearance.

Authorities said Marquez was last seen Juan Orlando Garcia Sarmientoand is now considered “wanted” by law enforcement.

It is currently unclear how Sarmiento, 41, and Maryuri know each other or if they are related. However, KFDX reported that authorities believe the teenager is in grave or immediate danger.

In addition to sharing photos of both Marquez and Sarmiento, the AMBER Alert included a description of a vehicle suspected of being connected to their disappearance. Authorities said people should be on the lookout for a black 2010 Ford with Texas license plate WGV9997.

The Yoakum County Sheriff’s Office took to Facebook to share that Sarmiento is wanted on “charges related” to Marquez’s disappearance. However, the department did not specify the nature of the charges.

Marquez is Hispanic with brown hair and eyes. He weighs 125 pounds and stands 5’11”. Meanwhile, Sarmiento is also Hispanic and stands 5’9″. He has black hair and brown eyes and weighs 188 pounds.

Authorities are asking anyone with information or who may have seen him to call 911 or contact the Texas Department of Public Safety at (806)740-8770.

The Yoakum County Sheriff’s Office did not immediately respond to Us Weekly’s request for comment.

Marquez disappeared a few days after his fellow Texan Camila Mendoza Olmos disappeared on the morning of December 24, 2025 in Bexar County. Although his family told authorities he regularly took morning walks, they noted that he left home without his car or cell phone.

Authorities began searching for the body of the 19-year-old and his remains were found in a field about 100 meters from his house on December 30, 2025.

The medical examiner determined that Olmos committed suicide after a firearm was found at the scene, according to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office.

member of the Olmos family, Nancy Olmosbroke his silence regarding the death of the teenager in a facebook post on Thursday, January 1.

“On behalf of the Olmos family, we want to extend a humble and heartfelt thank you to all the reporters, police detectives, FBI, churches, friends, family and many other communities for your support and prayers,” Nancy wrote. “Our beloved Camila Mendoza Olmos is now with the Good God.”

He then asked that the public respect his family’s privacy in light of the difficult time. “We kindly ask that you respect our grief and most importantly keep my cousin Rosario, Camila’s mother, and my nephew Carlos, Camila’s brother, in your prayers during this incredibly difficult time,” Nancy wrote. “Thank you, and God bless you all.”
