Olympian Sha’Carri Richardson, arrested for speeding in Florida


olympic Sha’Carri Richardson has been arrested for speeding offenses in Florida.

According to multiple media reports, track star Richardson, 25, was pulled over by authorities on Thursday, Jan. 29, for traveling 104 mph on a Central Florida highway.

A spokesman for the Orange County Sheriff’s Office he said WCNC You said Richardson was “dangerously overtaking” and “travelling across lanes” to pass other drivers.

Richardson, who won gold at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, was booked into the Orange County Jail and charged with dangerous speeding 100 mph or more, Us Weekly can confirm.

The athlete was being held on $500 bond. It is unclear if she has since been released.

Richardson is no stranger to controversy. In July 2025, the Olympic athlete was arrested at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport following a domestic violence incident involving her boyfriend Christian Coleman.

According to a police report obtained by The New York Times at that point, an arresting officer witnessed Richardson allegedly push Coleman several times as the speedster walked away from his girlfriend. The incident was also captured by a security camera.

Coleman declined to press charges and “refused to be a victim,” according to the report.

“For me, personally, I feel like it was a bad-tempered situation,” Coleman told reporters on Aug. 3, 2025. “I don’t think she should have been arrested. I mean, people have arguments and emotions and things like that.”

Richardson later took to her Instagram stories to offer a public apology to Coleman following his arrest for domestic violence.

“I apologize to Christian. He came into my life and gave me more than a relationship, but a better understanding of unconditional love than I’ve experienced in my past,” Richardson, 25, wrote via his Instagram story on Tuesday, August 12. “Because of the trauma and pain of the past, I was blinded and blocked from not only receiving it, but giving it. I love it enough and I can apologize.”

He continued: “My apology should be as strong as my actions, honestly stronger. To Christian, I love you and I’m so sorry.”

Richardson also promised her followers that she was “holding me accountable” in an Instagram story posted on August 11, 2025.

“I’m taking this time to not only see myself, but to get some level of help that will generally reflect who I really am in my heart and spirit and not allow this moment, but accept this moment, to be more,” she said.

Richardson won a silver medal in the 100 m at the 2024 Paris Olympics. She finished second, winning the silver medal in 10.87. He finished 0.15 behind Saint Lucia’s Julien Alfred, who took home the gold.

He was also part of Team USA’s gold medal-winning 4×100 relay team.

In the August 2025 edition of VogueRichardson talked about how athletics was a “24/7 lifestyle” for her and talked about the sacrifices she had made to pursue her athletic dreams.

“Every time I step on the runway, I think about all those moments when I was younger — all those feelings are still with me, I’m just that big girl,” she told Vogue at the time. “It’s almost like a flashback trip, everything that got me to this point. All the effort, all the sacrifice. And there’s a sense of this moment, that it’s been good for me, it’s special here. I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be.”
