Oksana Baiul he doesn’t let the loss of custody of his daughter, or a recent alleged run-in with the police, dampen his spirits.
“Hey everybody. (It’s) 4:46, I’m at Starbucks. The police officer was pulling me over,” Baiul, 48, told a video shared via Instagram on Wednesday, January 7, claiming she was arrested by law enforcement.
“What a gentle, nice, nice gentleman this guy is,” he continued in the image, which appears to be captured from inside his vehicle.
The Olympic gold medal She addressed why she claims the cops pulled her over in the caption, writing, “I know you’re all like why cops? I still have Louisiana plates on my 2020 Mercedes 😂.”
In addition to discussing his positive relationship with the law, Baiul appeared to address his recent legal news afterward Us Weekly reported exclusively earlier this month that her ex-husband Carlo Farina they were granted sole custody of their 11-year-old daughter, Sophia. (The couple were married for 13 years before finalizing their divorce late last year.)
“I have a question. It’s a very interesting question, it’s probably something I’ve been struggling with for so many years,” he said in the social media video. “If I don’t believe in myself, no one else will. Believe in yourselves, people.”
The professional ice skater also reminded her followers in the caption that “dreams do come true,” adding: “Thank you all for your support… 💕.”
Hours later, Baiul shared a separate message about how “many divorces are tumultuous and painful, often leaving lingering feelings of hurt, resentment and regret.”
She noted that as a mother she wants “nothing more than to protect my daughter from the negativity and speculation that often accompanies her,” referring to the news surrounding her and Farina’s split.
“I can only act in his best interest and ask you for the grace to move forward in a positive way and the understanding that whatever decisions I made were in his best interest at the time,” Baiul continued, apparently speaking about the court that granted him full custody of his son earlier this month. “Out of respect for her, I will not address the individual claims and allegations made about my divorce in a public forum. I am very grateful for your compassion and understanding.”

we exclusively reported on Monday, Jan. 5, that Farina was granted sole custody of her daughter as part of the former couple’s divorce settlement.
The news came after Baiul and Farina informed the court in October 2025 that they reached an agreement covering custody, support and division of their property, two months after Baiul announced they had separated. (According to Farina’s divorce filing, the couple separated in 2022, but didn’t go public with the breakup until the summer of 2025.)
Under the settlement, Farina was granted the ability to relocate from Louisiana to Las Vegas, where his company has an office, with Sophia. The documents, obtained by wehe pointed out that if Baiul wants to see his son – and Sophia agrees – Farina is in charge of setting him up.
The exes, who married in 2012, agreed to waive spousal and child support. However, Farina stated that he would pay Baiul a lump sum of $100,000 and another $150,000 paid over five years. If he moved to Nevada, which according to social media he has now done, he agreed to give her a 2020 Mercedes. (The Mercedes he was driving when he pulled over Wednesday.)
Farina also agreed to forgive $194,000 in loans his business made to Baiul and the couple split $108,000 in an investment account, according to the settlement.
While Baiul and Farina’s divorce was contentious at times, Baiul accused Farina harassment and manipulation before reaching an agreement, which Farina did not comment on before his deal closed in October 2025; since then, she has chosen not to speak negatively about her ex, as stipulated in her divorce settlement.
Baiul, however, did break his silence about custody on Monday, writing via Facebook: “As I’m sure anyone who has been through a separation or divorce knows, it’s a long and often devastating journey.”
She added: “Divorce is hard enough, but when there is a child involved it has to be the priority. As a mother, I ask that you respect our privacy at this time as we move forward building our new future…”
