Nikki Garcia addresses an Instagram photo of her kissing her 5-year-old son, Matteo, on the lips.
“There were a lot of reasons why I turned off my comments on this post, and that just goes to show why I don’t put my son on social media,” Garcia, 42, shared on the Thursday, Jan. 16, episode of SiriusXM. The Nikki & Brie Show. “It wasn’t even that many comments, but it was enough to upset me like, ‘I can’t believe she’s kissing her son on the lips, he’s 5,’ and I was like, ‘Dude, I can’t believe you’re so upset and upset.’ That’s crazy to me.”
Earlier this year, Garcia traveled to Legoland California with her son to experience the theme park’s holiday attractions.
When sharing memories of the trip, Garcia included an innocent photo of her kissing Matteo on the lips in front of the entrance.
“Matteo’s favorite place ever!” she wrote via Instagram on January 6 “He never wants to leave omgosh. He’s always so happy there… He’s such a little master builder. This kid constantly amazes me. 🧡🧱🥲.”
In response to critics who questioned her affectionate photo with Matteo, Garcia couldn’t believe she had to give an explanation.
“In the photo on the cover, it was the first time I saw Lego Santa, just the Lego version,” he explained. “He got so excited, so the lady was just taking pictures. Matteo picked me up and gave me such a big kiss. It was the cutest thing because you could tell he was so excited and thankful that he was actually going to Legoland and saw Lego Santa, so it was a great moment.”

“It’s weird when people have opinions about your kids, and then you’re like, ‘Look, that’s why I’m not posting it because I love my kid to death and you think I want to read this stuff about him?'” she explained. “But the kissing thing really bothered me and upset me because, first of all, I love my kid so much, and I feel bad if your kid wants to kiss you on the lips and you say no. I think it’s sad because I don’t know what that would do to them mentally.”
Nikki had the support of her sister, Brie Garciawho said she still kisses her cousins, aunts and parents on the lips.
“We’re all raised differently,” Brie, 42, said. “Maybe (because) we’re Italian-Mexican and we’ve got a couple other things in there… I think it’s weird to follow people and hate.”
During the episode, Nikki had one last request for her fans who feel the need to comment on her parenting decisions.
“Stop telling me to cut my son’s hair,” he proclaimed. “She loves her long hair. Her long hair is beautiful.”
