40 pools of Olympic size. It is the amount of wastewater that empty every day in the sea around the Canary Islands. It is located on the islands on the islands and only a quarter of them is legal. There was no appropriate wastewater treatment planning despite tourist boom and increased population in the islands in the last few decades. Most wastewater islands are not treated or barely treated before it is expelled into the sea through sometimes illegal channels. Authorities are trying to speed up the overflowing of the most modern purification plants, but the situation remains very worrying.
