United States President Donald Trump has said he is abandoning plans to impose tough tariffs on European countries opposed to his plans to annex Greenland after talks with NATO chief Mark Rutte.
Trump said in a social media post on Wednesday that the tariffs would not be imposed because he and Rutte had agreed “on a future treaty framework with respect to Greenland and indeed the entire Arctic region.”
“This solution, if completed, will be a great solution for the United States of America and all NATO nations,” he said, without elaborating on what was agreed upon.
Trump has been threatening to seize Greenland, a semi-autonomous island owned by Denmark, for weeks, sparking widespread protests in Europe and around the world.
More to come…
