netflix is constantly adding new films to its library, some that are rock classics and others that have a slightly more mixed reputation.
This November, the streamer adds 2021 The Little Things to your content collection. The film follows two cops’ search for a serial killer terrorizing Los Angeles, while one of the cops hides secrets that threaten to destabilize the case.
Although the film did less well with critics, The Little Things has its share of fans.
Watch with us breaks down our defense and why you should watch him this weekend.
It will play well for fans of crime thrillers
The Little Things follows veteran Deputy Sheriff Joe “Deke” Deacon’s career (Denzel Washington) and Rookie Sergeant James “Jimmy” Baxter (Rami Malek). After Deke sees a connection between a recent murder and an old case he was investigating, they team up to hunt down a serial killer stalking the Los Angeles area. Deke has a secret about his involvement in one of the previous murders, while the two cops become convinced that a shady criminal named Albert Sparma (Jared Leto) is her man.
The film may not be reinventing the wheel, however The Little Things It features a fun and throwback black vibe. fans of zodiac i Se7en (both seem to be a clear influence here) are sure to dig the thriller and crime procedural vibes. The film relies on its own genre stereotypes and clichés in a way that will likely satisfy those who can’t get enough of these types of stories.
The movie is equal parts Pulpy and Goofy
Part of what he does The Little Things such a fun watch to wear alone very seriouslywhich is a real breath of fresh air during a time when Hollywood often seems allergic to the risks of unabashed seriousness. This is also accompanied by a delightfully eccentric performance from Leto, a character who seems genetically engineered in a lab to be a suspected serial killer.
Other aspects of the film require some leaps of logic and a certain degree of suspension of disbelief, and the film tries to gloss over the fact that plot holes and loose threads abound. But if you’re on the film’s wavelength, it’s a fairly easy task to accomplish. Part of the appeal of this kind of ridiculous, overly serious crime thriller is that they have flaws, and often the flaws just make it a much more interesting movie.
Denzel Washington and Rami Malek introduce the film

Malek portrays Baxter as a strange fool, while Washington plays the grizzled elder statesman with more experience than Baxter. The expertise Baxter desperately needs if he has any chance of solving this case.
Although both men are extremely different and do their jobs very differently, they (perhaps obviously) end up realizing they have more in common than they might have thought. Both have a knack for finding clues, and both men are haunted by their jobs long after they’re done, but Deke doesn’t really want Baxter to become him one day. Also, when Leto’s character joins the film, it gives the two disparate detectives a satisfying cat-and-mouse chase.
