Nelly Furtado has announced that he will stop performing his music for the “foreseeable future”.
Career update shared through an Instagram post shared on Friday, Oct. 24, and reflected on his 25-year career.
“Today marks 25 years since my first album Come on Nelly! was released,” Furtado, 46, wrote in the lengthy caption.
Alongside photographs from the past two decades, Furtado reflected on the early days of his career
“25 years later, my music has reached a whole new generation of fans and I couldn’t be happier about that,” she added. “In 2000 I remember feeling the purpose of hoping that some kid could dust Come on Nelly! vinyl one day in a record store and thought it was cool or inspiring, so I never would have guessed that there would be so many new ways to discover ‘old’ music in 2025!”
Furtado opened up about how happy he felt to have so many people listening to his music over the decades before announcing his plans to step away from the stage.
“Having so many people rediscover my music has been surreal and joyful. It’s been so much fun to take this opportunity, get back on stage and see up close, the true lasting power of good music. It’s made me truly believe in magic,” he wrote.
Furtado continued, “All of that aside, I have decided to step away from acting for the foreseeable future and pursue other creative and personal endeavors that I feel would be better suited to this next phase of my life. I have thoroughly enjoyed my career and still enjoy writing music as I have always viewed it as a hobby that I was fortunate enough to turn into a writing career for good.”

“I am grateful for all the years of fun, community and wonder,” she wrote. “Endless thanks to anyone who has listened and vibed to my music and attended any of my shows. I love you and your open hearts.
Earlier this year, Furtado talked about how the pressures of his career affected how she is expected to look.
The “Say it Right” singer responded candidly to body shaming he was talking about self-love via an empowering Instagram post.
“This year I realized the aesthetic pressure of my work in a whole new way, while experiencing new levels of self-love and genuine confidence from within,” she wrote in the post’s caption. “For who cares, I have never had any surgery or face or body augmentation, other than veneers on my top row of teeth, recently.”
In the post, Furtado also denied having “face or lip injections or fillers.”
“My New Year’s message for 2025 is to express yourself freely, celebrate your individuality and know that it’s perfectly okay to be okay with what you see in the mirror, and it’s also okay to want something different,” she continued. “We’re all nice humans bouncing around the earth looking for hugs.”
