The N.B.A has postponed a game between the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Golden State Warriors, which was scheduled to take place on Saturday, January 24.
the league issued a statement shortly before the game to confirm that the Timberwolves and Warriors will not play Saturday night at the Target Center in Minneapolis as originally planned. The decision came after the fatal shooting of a 37-year-old ICU nurse Alex Pretti by Border Patrol agents in Minneapolis Saturday morning, according to The New York Times.
“Today’s National Basketball Association game between the Golden State Warriors and the Minnesota Timberwolves at Target Center has been postponed,” the NBA said in a statement. “The decision was made to prioritize the safety and security of the Minneapolis community.”
The Timberwolves vs. Warriors game has been moved to Sunday, January 25 at 5:30 pm ET, broadcast on NBA TV from the Target Center. Saturday’s game had originally been scheduled to air on ABC.

According to the Department of National Securitythe fatal shooting occurred early Saturday morning when Pretti “approached US Border Patrol agents with a 9mm semi-automatic handgun” and “wanted to do maximum damage and massacre law enforcement.”
Many on social media argued that Pretti confronted Border Patrol agents with a phone, not a gun, once images of fans of the meeting was released
In the a press conference on Saturday, Minneapolis Police Department Chief Brian O’Hara said Pretti apparently had no criminal record, but did have a valid permit to carry a firearm.
“Our demand today is that federal agencies operating in our city do so with the same discipline, humanity and integrity that effective law enforcement in this country demands,” O’Hara asked. “We urge everyone to stay calm. We recognize there is a lot of anger and a lot of questions about what happened. But we need people to stay calm.”
Governor of Minnesota Tim Waltz rejected the Department of Homeland Security’s official explanation for the shooting during a separate media briefing on Saturday.
“In no uncertain terms … we will look into this,” Walz, 61, promised reporters.

This latest incident follows tense weeks of protests against ICE activity in Minnesota. Reports suggest that activist and poet Renee Bona was shot and killed on January 7 by an ICE agent Jonathan Ross while he was behind the wheel of his car. (At the time, Good was acting as a legal observer for ICE raids in Minnesota.)
Coach of the Golden State Warriors Steve Kerr condemned Good’s shooting death as “disgraceful” while speaking to reporters in early January, for Fox News.
“(It’s) very demoralizing, devastating to lose someone’s life, especially in this way. So it’s terribly, terribly sad for her family, and for her and for this city,” Kerr, 60, said.
The Minnesota Timberwolves he kept a moment of silence in honor of Good before their 131-122 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Jan. 8.
“As we all know, our community has suffered another unspeakable tragedy,” the Timberwolves coach said. Chris Finch he said of the shooting. “We just want to extend our condolences and sincere wishes, prayers and thoughts to the families and loved ones and to all those who are deeply affected by what happened.”
