A mother and her son were shot and killed by her boyfriend at a Massachusetts home, where officers found the suspect with a gun believed to be the murder weapon, police say.
Arlington Cole54 years old, has been charged with two counts of murder and one count of illegal possession of a firearm in the death of Nicholas Almeida25 years old, and his mother, Elizabeth Almeida54, the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office said in a news release issued Sunday, Feb. 1.
Cole is accused of killing Nicholas and Elizabeth at a Fall River home on the afternoon of Friday, Jan. 30, when police were called to a double shooting, according to an earlier statement shared by the district attorney’s office.
There, they found an armed Cole, who police said “was in a dating relationship with Elizabeth.”
On Monday, Feb. 2, Cole appeared in Fall River District Court for an arraignment and “agreed to be held without bail,” a spokesman for the district attorney’s office confirmed. Us Weekly via e-mail

It is unclear what led to the fatal shootings, as authorities have not specified a potential motive. Nicholas and Elizabeth were pronounced dead at a hospital after they were found shot to death on Jan. 30, according to the district attorney’s office.
Cole’s defense attorney, Tim Bradltold WPRI-TV that “We have a lot to sort out… It’s too early to say exactly what that is.”
“Personal thoughts are with the family for such a terrible loss,” he added, according to the television station. “I have a job to do and I’m going to do it, but (it’s) a terrible case.”
According to a GoFundMe page set up for Elizabeth and Nicholas funeral expensesThe shooting unfolded after Elizabeth’s daughter and Nicholas’ sister, marissahe was hospitalized for mental illness.
“Nick Almeida and his mother, Elizabeth, were brutally taken from this world in an act of senseless violence by someone who was supposed to protect them,” the GoFundMe page reads.
Marissa, described as having “mental health disorders that prevent her from taking care of herself,” has “lost the only two people who loved and cared for her unconditionally,” the page says.
The page was also established for costs associated with Marissa’s care.
“The cruelty and purposefulness of this act has left a family torn apart beyond comprehension … (Marissa) is now alone, grieving, mentally vulnerable and facing an uncertain future through no fault of her own.”
A man in Hillsborough, New Jersey, was shot by police who were arresting him for fatally beating his parents, Us Weekly has confirmed. Somerset County Prosecutor John P. McDonald said Patrick J. Cole is scheduled to appear in court next month for a probable cause hearing on March 6, the district attorney’s office said.
Bristol County District Attorney Tom Quinn III told WPRI-TV that his office will present evidence against Cole to a grand jury.
“Tensions can be high, emotions are high,” Quinn said, according to the television station. “You have two people whose lives have ended. It’s hard to deal with, ever, but especially at this point so soon after the homicides.”
Fall River is about an 18 mile drive southeast of Providence, Rhode Island.
