Mitchell Lawrie surpassed Luke Littler’s record with an incredible debut victory at the VDF World Championships in Lakeside at the age of 15.
Lawrie became the youngest player ever to win a match at the iconic stadium, surpassing Littler’s record which he set at Lakeside in 2022 when he made the last of the 32 at the age of 15.
The Scot, who turned just 15 last month, averaged 90, hit 10 darts and scored two 145 checkouts – the first coming in the first game of the third set and the second sealing victory – as he underlined his status as one of the hottest rising stars by storming past Maru Japanama Tomoyama in the second match.

He will now face American second seed Jason Brandon in the next round on Tuesday.
As well as his Lakeside debut, Lawrie will also be in attendance at Alexandra Palace, having qualified for the JDC World Finals which will take place amid Littler’s defense of his PDC World Title.
For Littler, Laurie is an obvious exciting talent and he has kept an eye on the records he is chasing.
Speaking about the Scot’s rise, the world No.1 said: “He’s a very, very good player at such a young age as I am. Obviously, I think about my record when I won the VDF Open.”
“That’s another one he took off me, but he’s a very good player.
“It’s crazy. He has to wait years for a development tour. But for now, he just has to get on with it because he has to wait.
“But for now there are plenty of opportunities to go and win tournaments.”

Littler, who has won nine PDC majors, six of which came in 2025, encouraged Lawrie to continue his progress before joining the development tour.
“You just have to keep your head down. You still have to keep going,” said the world champion.
“Because I think at 14, 15 I was like, ‘Oh, there’s one more year until I can go on a development tour.’
“He’s definitely thinking the same way he’s been playing. So just keep your head down and yes, you’ll be on the Tour.”
Lawrie broke another Littler record just a few weeks ago when he became the youngest player to win three senior titles after winning the British Open, Welsh Open and Irish Classic at the VDF aged 15 years and four days.

Meanwhile, the 17-year-old Paige Pauling easily advanced to the second round of the women’s competition thanks to her success in straight sets against Germany’s Lisa Zollikofer.
Last year’s girls champion will next face last year’s runner-up, Sophie McKinlay.
