Michael Keaton is sharing some of her fondest memories of her deceased Beetlejuice to cost Catherine O’Hara a week after The actress died at the age of 71.
“I remember we must have met or met a little because, like me, she has a large family. She’s one of seven, and I’m one of seven. And so we kind of became friends,” Keaton, 74, recalled while attending the Harvard University Hasty Pudding Theatricals’ 2026 Man of the Year event in Cambridge, Mass., on Friday, Feb. 6. people informed.
“I remember one night in Toronto where he spent a summer (with his) brothers and sisters, and we were all playing pool in some bar somewhere,” he said. Batman the star continued. “But I think I’ve met him before, kind of hard to remember.”
Keaton, who said “like everyone else” he was a “huge fan” of O’Hara, adding that he was “SCTV’s biggest fan,” referring to the Canadian comedy show O’Hara got his start on, recalled how everyone in the entertainment industry “knew how brilliant he was and how great he was,” further referring to “O’Hara.”
“I was making this little movie called Game 6which is actually a really good little movie,” he continued. “It takes place in Boston and Griffin (Dunne) and I was talking, and they hadn’t released it (yet). I said, “Hey, how about) Catherine O’Hara as my ex-wife? Yeah, do you think she would? So I called her and she came down.”
He added: “I guess it was after the first one Beetlejuice. But I met her before. And to answer your question, I don’t remember when I first met her, but we must be friends as well as work together.”

A spokesman for the Los Angeles Fire Department later confirmed this Us Weekland that the paramedics were called to the Schitt’s Creek of star Brentwood residence at 4:48 that morning to render medical assistance. The late actress was taken to the hospital in a “serious condition” earlier succumb to the unknown disease. The official cause of death is not yet known.
Keaton was one of the first of O’Hara’s many co-stars and fans to issue a public statement mourning her death.
“Let’s get back before the first one Beetlejuice” Keaton wrote via Instagram at the time, alongside a photo of the former co-stars. “She’s been my pretend wife, my pretend nemesis, and my true friend for life. This one hurts. Man, I’m gonna miss her. Thinking of Beau too.
O’Hara is survived by her husband, Good Welchand his two sons, Matthew and Luke.
“I’m proud to say we all make each other laugh,” O’Hara said Toronto star in 2007 of life with his two children. “In my home growing up, I learned from my parents. They made each other laugh until the end, God bless them. How great?”
She added of her children’s time: “They’re a lot of fun, and we encourage it. The oldest does Warner cartoon pieces, very old-fashioned, cheap, funny vaudeville stuff. And the little one does puns.”
