Chinese officials are reviewing Meta’s $2 billion acquisition of startup Manus for potential technology governance violations, the FT reported on Tuesday.

China said it would investigate on Thursday MetaManus acquired artificial intelligence startup for $2 billion to assess compliance with export control laws.
Meta was purchased Singapore-based Manus announced last month that the US tech giant is trying to integrate advanced automation into its consumer and enterprise products.
Terms of the purchase were not disclosed, but the Wall Street Journal reported The deal closed for more than $2 billion, according to sources familiar with the acquisition.
China’s Ministry of Commerce said it will assess and investigate whether the purchase complies with laws and regulations related to export controls, technology import and export, and foreign investment, according to a statement translated by Google.
“The Chinese government consistently supports enterprises in carrying out mutually beneficial transnational operations and international technological cooperation in accordance with laws and regulations,” Ministry of Commerce official He Yadong said at a press briefing.
