Luke Grimes is reprising her role as Kayce Dutton at one CBS spinoff with a stacked cast — But with whom is it new? marshals and who originally appeared Yellowstone?
Spectators they introduced themselves to Kayce when the Dutton family took center stage at Paramount+’s Yellowstonewhich aired from 2018 to 2025. After the show ended, Grimes pondered how to end the role of Kayce.
“The last day of shooting, I thought it was my last day as Kayce. It was over for me,” Grimes recalled in an interview with people in June 2025. “It was seven years of playing a person I’ll never see again, except to have the hat and the jacket in the closet. It wasn’t until probably three or four months after that that everything started to line up for the (spinoff).”
He continued, “It was a much bigger life moment than I thought. Trying to leave this show, it was hard. It was really hard, and I know this is going to sound weird, but it was kind of emotional. It was like losing a family in a way.”
The next stop in the Yellowstone universe is a spin-off starring Luke Grimes’ character Kayce Dutton. Yellowstone, which premiered in 2018, introduced viewers to the fictional Dutton family, owners of Montana’s largest ranch. Grimes didn’t have to wait long to reprise the fan-favorite role. marshalswhich opens March 1, follows Kayce as he leaves “herding life behind to join an elite unit” of the US Marshals. He must combine “his skills as a cowboy and a Navy SEAL to bring justice to Montana, where he and his comrades must balance family, duty and the high psychological cost of serving as the last line of defense in the war against the region’s violence,” reads the official synopsis.
